Call for data IDF Diabetes Atlas 9th Edition

The IDF Diabetes Atlas 9th Edition will be published on 14 November 2019. The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) is looking for new data sources of diabetes prevalence to include in the 9th Edition.

IDF uses diabetes prevalence data from a variety of sources in its prevalence model to generate national, regional and global estimates of diabetes prevalence stratified by age, sex and setting (urban/rural).

Studies with the following criteria have the greatest chance of being selected as source data:

  • Studies with a large sample size
  • Nationally representative
  • Conducted in the last 5 years
  • Published in a peer-reviewed journal
  • Case identification by oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT), fasting blood glucose test or HbA1c.

Beyond diabetes prevalence estimates, IDF also welcomes studies on the following topics:

  • Undiagnosed diabetes
  • Impaired Glucose Tolerance (IGT)
  • Gestational diabetes (GDM)
  • Diabetes incidence
  • Diabetes complications

Unpublished studies or databases will also be accepted if sufficient detail on the data collection methodology can be provided.

If you are aware of any diabetes related data sources that would help IDF improve its estimates, please email the details to by 31 December 2018.
